Where to Hang Curtains

December 12, 2012

Curtains are one of my favorite ways to warm up a room, both figuratively and and literally. They are relatively inexpensive, but can make a huge impact. Often, drapes are hung close to the frame of the window, but you can create a much larger looking window by hanging them up near the ceiling and well beyond the sides of your window.  I had seen this a million times on HGTV and read it in magazines, but I was always freaked out by all that empty wall space between the top of the window and the curtain rod.  Wouldn’t it look silly? I made a little mock up of two identical windows to see if it really makes that much of a difference.  Well, I’m now a convert and will be changing my drapes this weekend!  Take a look:

Can you believe the difference that makes? Those windows are exactly the same size! During these short, dark days leading up to the solstice, make the most of your windows and enjoy those few hours of sunshine!
