10 Local Etsy Shops to Check Out

January 10, 2013

I love supporting local businesses, and Central Ohio is full of awesome, independent brick and mortar shops, which are a joy to visit on a lazy Saturday.  But what about at 10pm on a hectic Thursday? And what if you have already donned your evening stretchy pants and holey sweatshirt? Well, fellow lounger, there is hope for you.  Here are some Central Ohio based Etsy shops that are open 24/7 for browsing and purchasing from the comfort of your sofa.

DexMex sells some really cool prints, and many of them, like this one above, can be personalized.  Wouldn’t this make the most awesome wedding gift? So adorable.

Little Alouette is a Columbus-based Etsy seller that features the sweetest hand-carved baby teethers and toys.  The wood is locally sourced and finished with organic flaxseed oil. That should assuage any residual guilt over that gigantic plastic play gym you picked up.

OreillyInk makes sweet, simple, retro drawings of things like campers, Vespas, and giraffes.  For some reason, the pictures of vintage campers make me think of my sister, which makes me happy.

CyntiaVardhan makes these lovely bud vases and a variety of plates and other porcelain beauties.  All handmade, right down to the clay she uses, which she formulated herself.  Wow!

TmorrowsAntiques creates some really cool light fixtures.  I love the industrial/steampunk look of them!

TYFineFurniture creates the most beautiful furniture.  Everything is handmade, and they hand-bend the legs on this chair.  Isn’t it gorgeous?

MattRivera designs and builds furniture from recycled materials, like wooden shipping pallets, copper wire, and mason jars.  He calls this a plant table, but I picture this piece as an outdoor bar.  You say tomato, I say Bloody Mary.

Do you love Ohio? Like, LOVE OHIO? Take a look at the adorable shirts and bags at AllisonRose.

CraftyByNatureStudio makes lotions, lip balms, and scrubs, in addition to these beautiful handmade soaps.  I think that hand cut soaps make such beautiful gifts for people you don’t really know very well.  It’s worth having a bar or two around the house just in case.

And, finally, another baby product.  This mobile from SqrlBee is so cool and fun and would look awesome in any nursery.  And check out the other listings in the shop for garlands, toys, and ornaments–all made of wool felt!
