Grey Gardens for Rent!!

February 5, 2013

Several years ago, we rented and watched Grey Gardens on a friend’s recommendation and we are still talking about it.

Have you seen it? It’s a documentary from the ’70s about Jackie O’s Aunt and cousin, who lived in a huge house in the Hamptons.  Both women were so profoundly mentally ill that they neglected the home and hoarded all kinds of things (including animals) and the utilities wereturned off, and, well, it’s just sort of terrible.  The saving grace of the whole movie is how happy these ladies are, in spite of how bad everything is.  They sing songs and look at pictures and feed the raccoons, and seem totally fine with the whole situation.  Case in point:

So, why am I going on and on about a movie from 1975? Well, if you’d like to stay there this summer, you can rent Grey Gardens for $125,000 a month!!

If I had that kind of money, I would have booked it hours ago!

Do we get the raccoons too? Hopefully they’ve cleaned up their act, for 125k I would expect something spectacular. I can sell you a house for life for that price.
