Inspiration: Concrete Floors

March 4, 2013

We have hardwood flooring throughout our house, and although I like it, I think it’s sort of overrated.  Granted, we don’t have the beautiful, shiny, perfect flooring that you might see in a newer home.  No, we’ve got the kind with spaces between the boards, nails that periodically pop up and need to be hammered back in, and outrageously loud creaking (which was so horribly cliche when Ruby was a newborn–you know, you rock the baby for what seems like hours, gently place her in the crib, and softly creep out of the room, only to have the floor betray you with an EEEEEEEE, followed by wailing).

Anyway, I’ve been thinking about alternative flooring options, and I keep seeing these gorgeous concrete floors.  They are super low maintenance, can be finished almost any way you please, and, best of all, no creaking!! Check out these examples for some inspiration!

I love this tiled look. And no grout to worry about! From ConcreteNetwork.

This looks like hammered copper–so rich! From Design 2 Build.

I would have a hard time covering this floor with furniture, too.  Wowza.  From Santa Cruz Architect.

Now, this is just darling.  From Interior Designipedia.

Can you believe this is a diy? Find the entire tutorial at Vintage Revivals.

I have no words for how awesome this is.  From Dana Mac Concrete.
