DIY Rain Barrel

April 2, 2013

I have often wondered why we use drinking water to do things like flush the toilet and water the lawn.  Call me crazy, but it seems like a waste of resources to filter water so that it’s safe to drink, and then to go ahead and spray that water all over dirt.

This year, I think we are going to look into installing a rain barrel to use for watering the flower beds and kitchen garden. Instructables user Donnie Dillon was able to build a large rain barrel with $38.22 worth of materials from the hardware store.  It seems like a totally doable and cost-effective diy project.  Why not give it a try and take advantage of all these April showers?
