Friday Feature: Old and New

July 12, 2013

Summer 2013 will go down in our books as the summer that our house fell apart. At the end of the spring, water started pouring into our bedroom every time there was a big storm. Two weeks ago, David noticed that the ceiling in the kitchen was slightly bowed.  I guess it was the GALLONS of water sitting on top of it from a slow-leaking pipe that was causing that problem–easily solved by cutting a gigantic hole in the ceiling to let it drain! Thanks, plumbers! Two days ago, the air conditioner stopped working.  Sigh. It just feels like this place is all going at once.

Such is life in an old home. Those lovely built-in shelves and arched doorways don’t come free, my friend. Sometimes, the perfectly squared corners and up-to-code wiring of new builds is mighty attractive.  Today’s Friday Feature properties showcase the best of new and old.  One 100 year old gem, a 40 year old ’70s ranch, and a modern 2-story built in 2003–all lovely and fresh on the market!

As always, the Friday Features were listed this week with Century 21 Excellence Realty in Reynoldsburg, Ohi0.  Century 21 Excellence serves all of Central Ohio’s real estate and property management needs, so give them a call at 614-863-0180 or contact them here if you’re planning on buying or selling a home in the area. If you’d like to see one of the homes featured today, just mention this post when you call.

This 1920s Columbus home was recently beautifully renovated and boasts 6 bedrooms and over 3,400 square feet! The back yard is nice a private with a brick wall blocking the street.  It’s listed at $210,000 with Jerri Davis, so contact her for more information.

I frequently drive down a street of all low-slung ’70s ranches and I have developed sort of a crush on them. They are so cool! This 3 bedroom Reynoldsburg home is a great investment property at just $85,000.  It’s situated on nearly half an acre of land, which gives tons of space for a deck, a pool, or a soccer field. A few gallons of paint would spruce it right up–but I’m kind of digging those checkered tiles in the kitchen! Contact Kelly MacDonald for more info.

For those not quite comfortable with the “charms” of older homes, this Columbus 2 story is as pure as the driven snow.  Perfectly square walls, clean, fresh carpet, and well-insulated windows have their own allure.  With 4 bedrooms and a nicely finished basement, there’s plenty of space for the average family.  The backyard features a deck, privacy fence and lots of cute landscaping.  It’s listed at $149,900 with the C.O.R.E. team.  Contact them here if you’d like to take a look.

I often wonder if I could actually make it in a character home. I always talk like I could, but there’s only so much paint can do – never mind the electrical and other things you mentioned, lol. Still, feeling a little jealous anyway!
