Boston Harbor Lighthouse Auctioned for $738,000

August 20, 2013

There is something so romantic about a New England lighthouse, but what would you do with one if you owned it? Well, plenty of people are apparently interested. The Graves Island Light Station in Boston Harbor, which hasn’t operated since the ’70s, was auctioned off this week for the whopping sum of $738,000.

Although the actual light still works, the property is only accessible by boat and is in need of some major repairs. There is currently no plumbing or utilities. Bidding started in June at just $25,000, but the price has skyrocketed since then, as the story went public in the Boston Globe.

If I had a bunch of money, I would totally consider fixing up a lighthouse to be the most awesome vacation home ever.

Read the full story here and see more pictures here in the Boston Globe.
