ZenCha Tea Salon
We spent the better part of last weekend exploring Bexley with my sister, who recently moved there. On Sunday, we tried the new-ish ZenCha Tea Salon and, in a city full of cool restaurants, it is truly unique.
You should know that I am no tea snob. Give me a bag of Twining’s Irish Breakfast with milk and sugar and I’m set, so I was a bit concerned that I would be expected to drink some sort of bitter, black tea. I also thought the service might be a little condescending and judgy. I was wrong on both counts. My sister and I split a French Press of cardamom and ginseng tea, that was sweet and delicious. The whole seed pods and herbs were really beautiful in the carafe, too. The service was friendly and not intimidating at all.
The food was a mix of regular brunch fare (bacon and cheddar omelets, shrimp and grits, etc) and Japanese-style dishes (miso ramen, vegetable-filled pancakes, various dumplings). Ruby, my 2 year old, got peach bubble tea and was pretty much swooning over it. All three of their downtown locations serve a slightly different menu, so check out what’s available at each one here.
I think it would be the perfect spot, especially once autumn rolls around. Give it a try!
