Freshly Roasted Coffee in Central Ohio

September 19, 2013

Coffee is an essential part of my morning routine. David is pretty obnoxious about the quality of our brew, insisting on either a Chemex of freshly ground pour-over coffee, where both the grounds and the water are precisely weighed and measured, or (my favorite) espresso and steamed milk. Yeah, I’m pretty spoiled by our home set-up, but we do get coffee out pretty frequently, and for me, the best shops are those rare gems  that roast their own beans on-site. I think the smell is what does it for me, but the coffee is just irresistable.

If you’re local to Central Ohio, here are a few places to try on the chilly fall days ahead.

Impero Coffe Roasters. Impero has two locations, one shop right on High Street in the Short North and one in Grove City, and roasts their beans in small 10 lb batches. They only use sustainably sourced, fair trade beans, so you can sip guilt-free!

Cafe Brioso. Located on Gay Street, Cafe Brioso offers coffee roasted on-site, loose leaf teas, and some light food and soups. A great place to head for lunch on a cool day.

Caffe Apropo. Located at the corner of 3rd & Michigan, Caffe Apropo serves freshly roasted coffee, wine, beer, baked goods and lunch fare.

Stauf’s Coffee Roasters. In addition to their brick and mortar shop at 1277 Grandview Ave, Stauf’s owns two of Central Ohio’s favorite coffee shop franchises: Cup ‘O Joe and Mo’Joe Lounge.
