Celebrate Autumn: Food

Welcome to the first week of autumn! We made it through those last dog days of summer, and now the annual cool down has begun. Fall is my favorite season–I love everything about it. The food, the festivals, the holidays, and maybe most of all, the nip in the air that makes me want to cozy up with my knitting needles in front of the fireplace. So let’s just forget about the fact that Old Man Winter is waiting in the wings to dump snow and ice all over us come January. This week, let’s celebrate fall, starting with The Food.

Fall food is all about apples, pears, and squash. Here are some of my favorite recipes to warm me up this season:

Martha Stewart’s Butternut Squash and Sage Lasagna is just heavenly. It’s an awesome way to take something that’s good for you and make it ridiculously bad for you. You won’t care, though.

 

Smitten Kitchen’s Sweet Potato and Sausage Soup. I have made so many recipes from Smitten Kitchen, and every single one has been a huge success.  This one is hearty and delicious and I’m making it again on the first day the high temperature dips below 60 degrees.

Dinner a Love Story Confetti Brussels Sprouts with Bacon. Here’s how to eat Brussels sprouts: fry them in bacon fat. You’re welcome.

The Pioneer Woman’s Pumpkin Soup. It looks so adorable in this little pumpkin, but there are really only 5 ingredients in this simple. soup.

Hot Caramel Apple Cider. The caramel apple spice is one of my favorite Starbucks drinks, when I don’t absolutely need caffeine (rarely), so this knock-off is a welcome one, and would probably be good with a bit of rum or bourbon slipped in.  Mmmmmm.
