Free Furniture Plans

September 30, 2013

Have you ever built a piece of furniture? We attempted an outdoor dining table a few years back, and it’s not going to win any beauty pageants, but it gets the job done. My dad, on the other hand, built a lovely bookshelf when he was in high school, which lives at my sister’s house now, and will come to my house if I can pry it out of her greedy hands. Ahem.

If you’re thinking of attempting a project like this, there are plenty of awesome places to look online, where you can browse tons of free furniture plans and tutorials, including supply lists and difficulty levels. Here are just a few:

For gorgeous, traditional and trendy pieces, you can’t go wrong with Ana White’s plans. She creates original furniture and provides plans for knock-offs of expensive pieces from stores. Check out this Rustic X Console–so pretty! Browse her hundreds of plans at ana-white.com

Lowe’s offers tons of free plans on their site, and many of them are simple enough for even the most novice diy-er to tackle. I like the look of this open ended bookshelf. Browse their plans at Lowes.com/how-to-library.

I love this platform storage bed. Wouldn’t it be awesome to get rid of your dressers and free up that floorspace? The plans for this and several other furniture pieces are offered for free on the website, SawdustGirl.com.
