Take a look at the two rooms above. Which do you prefer? If you said the first top photo, you’re in good company. According to a recent article on Fast Co Design, it’s probably because the top room features more rounded shapes, while the bottom one is more rectilinear. Apparently, our brains like curvy forms more than angular ones, and this preference applies to architecture and home decor. Read the full article here–it’s really fascinating!
If you’re thinking of selling your home soon, or if your home is currently on the market, you can make this bit of psychology work for you by incorporating more organic shapes in a room. No need to change anything major, just a round pillow, or an arched floor lamp can make buyers’ brains happy, and could result in a quicker sale!
