A few years back, one of my coworkers brought in her Thanksgiving leftovers  to share with the office about a week after the holiday. We were all a bit freaked out about how long the food had been sitting around! WebMD, my go-to medical site whenever I want to make absolutely sure that this nagging cough is probably Tuberculosis and I’m going to die very soon (haha! But isn’t that always the way?), recommends the 2-2-4 rule.

2- Get food into the fridge or freezer within 2 hours of cooking it. If it’s been out longer than 2 hours, toss it.

2- Don’t pile food more than 2 inches high in their containers for the fridge or freezer, this way it will cool quickly.

4- Toss everything from the refrigerator after 4 days. This means you need to eat EVERYTHING by Monday–I know you can do it!
