Inspiration: Best Fireplaces Ever

January 8, 2014

My fireplace has been blazing all day every day since this cold snap hit. There is something so nice about that constant heat, and the cozy glow. A fireplace is such a great focal point for a room, but the ’70s and ’80s produced some pretty terrible specimens. If you’ve got an ugly fireplace that you want to beautify, check out these gorgeous examples from Design Sponge. They’ve rounded up nearly 40 of the loveliest ones around. Check them out here and be inspired!

I love that all of these fireplaces (minus the super modern one) look like they’re the original materials. People are so quick to rip out old brick/stone/etc. and replace it with something new. It usually looks good, but of course a carrara marble fireplace is going to be pretty! These fireplaces show true design skill by incorporating an old (sometimes outdated) look into a contemporary room – and doing it beautifully! Great finds, thanks for sharing!

I agree! I love my travertine fireplace, which is original to my house. I can’t believe that some prefer a featureless box!
