Ideal Home of 1941

April 28, 2014

As a lover of Mid Century Modern decor and architecture, I was fascinated by these photos of the ideal home from 1941.

This model apartment on 5th Avenue in NYC was the peak of fashion. The style of this home is impeccable, but it also seems wildly uncomfortable. I mean, I’m all for clean lines and modern furnishings, but this furniture looks like it’s made of cement!

The beds are even worse; I guess plywood mattresses were a thing back then?

It’s fun to see how much things have changed, but add a bit more stuffing to that furniture and a throw pillow here and there, and this look would look just as modern in 2014 as it did in 1941.
