One Ring to Rule Them All

May 15, 2014

In the past, we could only control our smart home stuff (think TV, thermostat, smart locks, window shades, basically anything that can connect to wifi) with complicated timers and schedules. Smart phones and tablets have made that job much easier and have enabled us to change the settings of our stuff on the fly, but many people are trying to get away from staring at their phones all day long.

Now you can use a small ring on your index finger to do things like turn up the heat, record a show, or turn on and off lights. Nod is a somewhat bulky, but still wearable, ring which allows to to use gestures to control lots of different smart components through many different platforms. You can just wear one, or put one on each hand to use two-handed gestures.

As a gadget, this could be fun to use, although I don’t see it replacing a smart phone for controlling your connected systems. At $149, it’s fairly affordable, so maybe it’s worth a try.
