6 Things to Consider Before Starting Your Homestead

Homesteading is a huge trend right now, with lots of folks wanting to grow their own food. The spectrum runs from a simple vegetable garden to a couple of egg laying hens, to a full fledged working farm. I have to admit that I am very drawn to the concept of being more connected to my food (both produce and meats), and the pride that comes along with that. Unfortunately, that’s not in the cards just now, but ask me again in 10 years or so.

If you’re ready to take the leap into purchasing land and starting a small farm of your own, there are a few things to consider first. Realtor.com just ran a really helpful article, which outlines some of the issues you’ll want to address, like zoning, irrigation, and of course, location.
