Best States to Raise a Kid

July 24, 2014

Every year, the Annie E. Casey Foundation publishes the KIDS COUNT Data Book, an annual report of the well-being of children in each US state. It ranks them in areas like economic prosperity, education, health, and family and community strength. This year’s report puts Ohio in the top 25 states, all of which seem to be in the northern part of the country. At the top of the list are Massachusetts, Vermont, and Iowa. The worst states? Nevada, New Mexico, and Mississippi.

Although the study reports that more children are living below the poverty line, more kids are also attending preschool and finishing high school, and children are generally in better health than they were 10 years ago.
