Another Way to Hang Pictures in the Right Spot the First Time

September 8, 2014

Will I ever be finished hanging things on the wall? We are working to fill our large, blank living room wall, and we’d really like to avoid the constellations of nail holes that sometimes happen when you’re trying to line pictures up “just so.” Last time we did a little gallery wall, we used tin foil to create a rubbing of the top edge of our pictures and the hanging mechanism on the back, and then nailed/drilled right through it once we got it arranged. That worked well, but was sort of a pain, and was pretty wasteful. This time, I used toothpaste and it worked great!

This may not work with every type of hanger, but for these toothy kinds, it was perfect. I put a dab of toothpaste on the back of the picture, where I wanted the little screw to go, and then I just lined up the picture, and pressed the back of it onto the wall. It left a bit of toothpaste right where I needed to drill! Look at those top edges! Perfectly even!
