Dogs or cats? Everyone seems to fall on one side or the other on this one, so I’ll just come right out and say that I am a dog person through and through. I am actually a little freaked out by cats–iI think t’s all the nocturnal activity. And the hunting. I just feel like cats generally see people as large prey.

It’s looks like I’m not in very good company here in Ohio, though! As it turns out, Ohio is in the top 10 most cat-loving states in the US! The Washington Post ran a fun little article with dog-owner vs cat-owner ratios for every state, and for many countries. As a whole, the US is pretty balanced, but it seems like regionally, the North prefers cats, while the South likes their dogs. Interesting!

They also found that the more highly developed a nation is, the more balanced its pet ratios become. So, less developed countries have a strong preference for either cats or dogs, while more developed ones are nearly one to one.

Check out the article on the Washington Post. Do you fit in with your state or country’s preference?
