I love the idea of an architect creating a home from an old, commercial or non-residential space. In fact, I’ve always wanted to live in a renovated old school building.  lot of these old buildings have lots of unique architectural details to offer, plus, it’s usually better for the environment to make an old building work than to start from scratch.

From country chapel to modern home

From crumbling castle to cozy retreat

Curbed.com has rounded up 17 of these projects from around the internet. Everything from an old garage to a Victorian water tower are featured, plus several old churches. I think they’re all beautiful, and so inspirational, if you need a bit of vision to see an old commercial property in a new light.
