Watch any reality real estate show on HGTV, and you know that buyers should look past garish paint colors, cluttery knick knacks, and dated decor and try to see the actual house. That doesn’t stop people from discounting perfectly good homes for things that will disappear as soon as the current owners move out. It would be great if people could make purely logical decisions, but when a buyer is looking at ten houses that meet all their big checklist items (location, number of bed and bathrooms, etc), those little details can be the things that push them to write an offer.

Staging a home can be one of the most important parts of your selling strategies, but lots of people don’t give it the attention it needs. Last week, the writers at Apartment Therapy created a list of 8 common mistakes that folks make when staging a home. Besides decluttering, which I’ve written about many times before, don’t forget to get the stink out of your home! And with election day coming, keep your political stuff out for now. That means no yard signs or magnets on the fridge. Check out the full list here.
