Pantone 2015 Color of the Year

December 4, 2014

Every December, the color connoisseurs over at Pantone release the “Color of the Year”, and fashion, home decor, and tech designers always take note. Sure enough, we usually start to see the color of the year popping up in dishes, throw pillows, and dresses within a few months.

The past seven years or so have seen some vivid hues, like Tangerine Tango, Emerald, and Radiant Orchid, but this year marks a departure from those brighter colors into something more subdued and earthy. The 2015 Pantone Color of the Year is….

Here’s what Pantone has to say about this mauve-ish shade:

Sensual and bold, delicious Marsala is a daringly inviting tone that nurtures; exuding confidence and stability while feeding the body, mind and soul. Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this robust shade incorporates the warmth and richness of a tastefully fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots point to a sophisticated, natural earthiness.

So, what do you think? I’m on the fence. On one hand, I think it looks like dried blood. On the other, it has a sort of faded, comfortable appeal. Maybe it will grow on me?
