Photographing a House

April 28, 2015

Once you have made the decision to sell your home, it can be tough to get motivated to get it ready to list. Fixing up a house you aren’t going to live in anymore isn’t fun, but if you do it, you can increase the odds that your house will sell quickly. Now, I’m not talking about gutting the kitchen or building an addition or anything, I’m talking about dealing with the little imperfections that you’ve been putting off, cleaning as if the queen of England was visiting, decluttering, and staging.

Since many people look at photos of a house online before they even talk to a realtor, making your house look awesome for those pictures is absolutely imperative. Kim Six over at has a great post about staging her own Boston home. She purchased a home which had been sitting on the market for a while, and she sold it 9 months later in the first 24 hours after it was listed. These photos show the original listing photos and her photos from when she sold the home.

If you look closely at the pictures, you’ll notice that she barely changed anything about the house. They did redo the kitchen, but everything else is essentially the same. The After photos are staged and professionally shot, which really makes the house shine. Check out her full post here. It’s full of lots of little tips about how she went about setting up the house for the photographer.
